FAQ

I would like to start my own business and I don’t know where to begin.

To better understand the different steps involved in starting a business and how to benefit from various programs and services available to you, see the section Starting a Business. Register for an Information Session to learn more about the Self-Employment Program. Or contact us if you have questions.

I have questions about the Self-Employment Program.

I am receiving Employment Insurance benefits. Can I apply for the Self-Employment Program and receive income support?

Since you are receiving Employment Insurance, you can apply for the Self-employment Program and receive income support if you are eligible. You should be aware that you will receive one stream of financial support ONLY.

If I am participating in the Self-Employment Program, can I also apply for the Young Promoters Program?

Yes you can. For further information contact the Centre Local de Développement (CLD) in your area.

We are two potential entrepreneurs. My partner is receiving Employment Insurance, but I have a job. Can we apply for the Self-Employment Program?

Yes, for your partner. The partner receiving Employment Insurance will receive income support and business coaching from the Self-Employment Program and must be the majority shareholder in the company. The partner who wishes to keep their job cannot apply for the program and will be the minority shareholder.

I am working now, but I intend to start a business next year. Do you have a program for me?

We offer an evening course Starting a Business, in partnership with the Commission scolaire Marguerite Bourgeoys which may interest you. Learn to validate your business concept and get prepared to start your own business.

I am 40 plus, can I apply for your programs?

SAJE Montréal Centre offers different programs for those people 40 plus: Self Employment Program (up to age 64)  and the Starting a Business course. Each program has its advantages and its conditions of participation. Attend an Information Session for further information.
